This partnership delivers a unique approach to providing a comprehensive image-enabled Personal Health Record. The joint solution allows caregivers and patients, timely access to relevant patient information, ultimately helping improve patient safety and care, while increasing efficiency and reducing costs, According to TeraMedica CEO, Jim Prekop. “We see this PHR development as building on our proven success of delivering Electronic Medical Records in the Provider Marketplace with an image enabled program of the eCare PHD””.

TeraMedica’s Evercore® solution, integrated with the eCare Personal Health Desktop® (PHD), allows physicians and patients to instantly access medical images such as X-rays and MRI scans or Cardiology exams, as well as other types of clinical digital content such as electronic reports, from a patient’s existing Personal Health Record (PHR) desktop.

eCare Solutions Demonstrates New Features to Scientific Advisory Board

November 21, 2004
Milwaukee, WI

At the biannual Scientific Advisory Board meeting, eCareSolutions, an integrated Health and Productivity Management technology leader, announced several new enhancements to its eCareConnect™ web solutions product and affiliated service offerings.

eCare Solutions announced the addition of HRQ-30, a paper health risk assessment questionnaire, to its award winning web based eCareConnect™ system. Raymond Gavery, MD, Chief Scientific Officer of Health and Wellness Solutions, Inc, parent company of eCare Solutions, demonstrated that when the questionnaire results are loaded into eCareConnect™, the industry leading Personal Health Desktop (PHD)™ is automatically created. The PHD™, with features such as personal medical records, custom health improvement programs, and proprietary risk resolution and disease management guidelines, is each individual’s health decision support system. Also created automatically are the Corporate Health Profile reports, including the industry leading web based Predictive Cost Modeling interactive tools.

In addition to using input from the HRQ-30, eCareConnect™ can also integrate data from other health risk assessment tools, allowing employers and risk managers to take advantage of eCareConnect’s unique features going forward, without sacrificing their existing historical data. Gavin Quinnies, President of eCare Solutions, illustrated two current projects where eCare Solutions is integrating historical data from other health risk assessment systems so new customers can take advantage of eCareConnect’s patient-centric Personal Health Desktop and Corporate Health Profile tools. Several new customers have chosen the new paper HRQ over other paper assessment tools because of the flexibility and integrated methodology eCareConnect provides for future enhancements to Dr. Gavery also introduced upgraded data mining features for the HealtheCoach™ disease management and health promotion module, integrated with eCareConnect. In conjunction with the Corporate Health Profile Predictive Modeling tools, the new data mining tools allow a HealtheCoach mine, track and manage activity data for individuals participating in eCare Solutions’ health promotion and disease management programs. Dr. Gavery explained how customers are choosing eCareConnect to improve patient efficacy and operational productivity, and working with the HealtheCoach™ to manage over 50 diseases and lifestyle factors.

Also introduced was the LabLoad feature of eCareConnect’s WellCentives™ Bona Fide Wellness and Consumer Driven Programs. Dr. Gavery demonstrated how when laboratory data is loaded into the user’s PHD, the results automatically create a WellCentives™ HealthScore™, providing a web based means by which employers can facilitate incentives. Individuals can also monitor how improvements in areas such as cholesterol, weight and blood pressure can improve their incentives. Used in conjunction with the other lifestyle improvement tools, these programs can be integrated into a consumer driven health reimbursement account program.

eCare Solutions Scientific Advisory Board also welcomed three new members: Mr. David Jewell, RPh, co-founder of Bravell Claims management, (now Merck-Medco), Dr. Raymond Benoit of Geneva, Switzerland, who has served as European Medical directors for organizations Pfizer, Novartis and others, and Ms. Leslie Dixon, Vice Chairman and Vice President of Human Resources of RW Baird Investment Services.

Gavin Quinnies also described several integration and data warehousing projects that will combine diverse customer datasets such as medical claims, pharmacy, clinical, worker’s compensation, health savings, and other benefit data.

Dr. Gavery updated the group on the progress of the first ever study on health infomediaries jointly facilitated by the University of Texas and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) involving the use of eCareConnect. Dr. Gavery stated he expects well over 10,000 individuals will participate in the study from diverse employer groups such as county and federal government, public and private hospitals, retail, manufacturing, education, and service organizations. Dr. Lambrecht, Dean of the UWM College of Health Sciences, told the group that eCareConnect was chosen in February for a number of multi year studies because of its unique breadth and depth of features for individual, corporate, and public health risk management and population health management.

John Dawson, Vice President and Actuary for Willis Group Holdings, shared with the group his recent review of some competitive systems, stating how eCareConnect has many advanced and unique features.

Diane Dappern, RN, President of Broadway Health Clinic, stated that the addition of the paper HRA will help in her work with the non-English speaking patients and manufacturing employees that frequent her inner city clinic. Michael Erdmann, Chief of Staff of the Zablocki VA hospital, stated how ethnicity considerations are important for health risk assessments, and how eCareConnect does an excellent job in both the online and paper based versions.

Dr. Finkler, Chair of Economics at Lawrence University stated that eCareConnect’s flexibility and enhancements shared at the meeting make it one of the most flexible and broad set of tools for employers of all types, and that there are features for the most simple to the most sophisticated wellness program. Dr. Finkler is a Robert Wood Johnson Healthcare Fellow.

Press Release Monday August 2, 2004

University of Wisconsin chooses eCare Solutions system for multi year study.

eCare Solutions’ eCareConnect Health Risk and Productivity Management system has been selected as the subject in an extensive study of the factors influencing the use of health-maintenance websites and what influence people to trust the information provided in such websites. Dr. Mariam Zahedi, Wisconsin Distinguished Professor at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee (UWM) School of Business Adminstration-MIS, will oversee the study. Dr. Zahedi is a leader in studying the design, adoption, and trust issues related to websites, particularly health-related websites and is the author of over 70 refereed publications and two books in intelligent systems and information systems quality. Her team selected the eCareConnect system for an extensive field study in examining what makes people use and trust health maintenance websites in making their health-related decisions. Using websites that provide assessment, information and guidelines of health and fitness contributes to a better health maintenance of a work force and helps educate individuals in taking actions to prevent major health problems. “The results of this study could shed light on what makes people more receptive to use online advice for their health and fitness decisions” states Dr. Zahedi. The study has chosen a number of employers representative of the spectrum of employees throughout the country. The full extent of the research and its final report is expected to take approximately two years.

eCare Solutions is a health and productivity management company and the developer of the eCareConnect System. eCareConnect includes a personal health management program that enables individuals to assess their health, provides customized care management programs with its proprietary risk resolution guidelines, store medical records, and communicate with health providers. The eCareConnect prospective and predictive modeling and claims analysis tools help employers justify loss avoidance through preventive/ pre-emptive intervention and chronic disease management.

UWM has over 24,000 students and is one of the largest healthcare education providers in the nation. Dr. Randy Lambrecht, Dean of the College of Health Sciences helped identify eCareConnect as a possible study subject. The UWM College of Health Sciences is the largest in the Midwest, with three degree programs ranked among the top in the country. The college serves more than 1100 students in 6 undergraduate, 5 masters programs, a PhD in Health Sciences and 10 certificated programs. UWM is also home to the largest College of Nursing in Wisconsin, with programs from undergraduate to doctorate. The UWM School of Business Administration is the second largest in Wisconsin, with over 4000 students, of which 25% are in MIS.
